Partial Straight Collar
A partial straight collar occurs when the coin planchet falls into the chamber to be struck but is squarely disengaged from the collar die.

Partial Collars
Partial collar strikes occur when there is a malfunction of the striking press. This causes the collar to be in an incorrect position. The lower die (usually the reverse die) is recessed in the collar.

The shield lines will be partially visible. There will be very noticeable wear and heavy marks, especially on coins graded Very Fine-20 and Very Fine-25. Most coins in this grade range have been cleaned at one time.
