Penny Values are Increasing Yearly
From Half Cents to Large Cents to Indian and Lincoln penny values, all are rising. For example, wheat pennies 1909-1958 are worth 3 cents each for common dates in the 40s and 50s.

Halfpenny Trade Tokens
During the period 1787 to 1797, and again between 1811 and 1812, many private trade tokens were manufactured to fill the gap left by the absence of official small change.

The halfpenny is minted on the obverse side like an Indian halfpenny of the same period. It was found by Mr. C. C. Poole of Norma Street, Mile End, while searching for another coin in his collection.

Place your penny in a plastic tray and put on your googles. Poor just enough acid into the tray to cover the coin about half of an inch. You should see the acid reacting with the zinc core inside the penny (look for a lot of bubbles forming).

The 1943 Copper Penny
The most notable and probably the most talked about coin in the history of collecting is the 1943 Copper Penny.

The Lincoln Head Penny is the current one cent coin of the United States. It was adopted in 1909, replacing the Indian head cent.

Marc Antony's coins are also a possibility for the "tribute penny." While not a "Caesar", Antony defintely had imperial aspirations. Unlike Brutus, he was not a republican, but an opportunist.

The penny and its divisions had been important elements of the British coinage system for centuries when the adoption of a decimal system in 1971 replaced the old penny valued at 1/240 of a pound with one valued at 100 to the pound.

The penny token of the Birmingham workhouse illustrates this point. Issued in 1812 and 1813, the workhouse depicted on the obverse was at the time one of only two public buildings in the entire city, the other one being the prison.

Double Strike errors occur when the blank planchet is struck properly but the coin was not ejected. If the struck coin isn't ejected, it may receive a second or third strike by the dies.

The First Coppy Penny
The first coin authorized by the new United States Congress was a one-cent coin. Because there was not yet a government mint, more than one version of the coin was struck.
