PLANCHET STRIATIONS Parallel hairlines or grooves into the surface of a coin.
The pronounced planchet striations seen on this copy are not found on the originals. The obverse of the reproduction has a similar style of lettering to the original but with slightly thicker lines.
On the obverse some parallel planchet striations are seen on the cheek, perhaps having the financial effect of reducing the value of the coin by a grade point or two. The striking is above average.
These are usually fine, parallel lines though on some coins they are swirling, still others with criss-cross lines. Planchet striations are burnishing lines not struck away by the minting process and are incuse on the coins.
