Premium Quality Often abbreviated 'PQ'. Another splendiferous euphemism, Premium Quality translates into "I want a higher price for mine because I think it deserves it." Always, the emphasis is on more, never less.

A term which describes the very finest coins that fall into any given grade, or that have some claims to a higher grade.

PQ: "Premium Quality" applies to coins on the high end of a grade.
PR: "Proof" is a term used to describe a coin minted from highly polished planchets and dies resulting in a well-struck coin with highly reflective fields.

PQ / Premium Quality
Term given to coins which are on the high-end of a certain grade. In other words, someone labeling a certain coin as MS-65 PQ is suggesting that the item is much nicer than an average piece in the same grade.

Prestige Set
A set of coins produced by the U.S. Mint, containing one or more proof commemorative coins released in the same year, as well as a proof cent, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar. Is not the same as a Proof set.

PQ - Premium quality

Plain Edge - A design characteristic of all U.S. small cents and nickels, half-cents, and large cents minted after 1795, two-cents and three-cents pieces, and the silver 20-cents coin.

IT CAME TO PASS that other disciples hit upon the idea of adding a small 'PQ' to the number to signify Premium Quality. Still others bethought they could see thine selves reflected in the field of certain Morgan silver dollars.

The knowledgeable buyer can learn to separate the low-end and unappealing coins and leave those to other buyers, while purchasing those of premium quality. Years ago grading differences among sellers were much greater than they are today.

It stands for "Premium Quality" a term which describes the very finest coins which fall into the categories of Mint State-65 or Proof-65. For example, an MS-65PQ graded coin is considered more desirable than a coin described simply as MS-65.

A beautiful Pre-Civil War quarter eagle that is Premium Quality for the grade and very flashy. Only two MS-64's are know finer, but to this day, none have ever been offered to the public and remain in tightly held collections.

The trick now is to be able to distinguish a premium quality coin from a low-end coin.

high end A term applied to any coin at the upper end of a particular grade. See also premium quality.

The result is that the high end, or premium quality coins, of a particular grade range are less likely to remain "certified" than are the average or lower quality coins in the same grade range.

Do not expect to get a coin at premium quality online. Dealers may decide to sell coins online which are spotty and of low quality.
Read the terms of the sale before you bid.
