Prestige Proof set: A special U.S. Proof set, commemorating regular Proof coins plus commemorative coins of that year.
Prestige Proof Sets In 1985, the US Mint did not produce any Prestige Proof Sets because there were no commemorative coins created that year. These specially made proof set compilations come in a hinged box which opens like a book.
Prestige Proof sets, sold from 1983 to 1997, included commemorative coins, while sets sold since 1999 include the 5 state quarters issued that year, and Legacy Proof sets, sold in 2004 and 2005, ...
Other sets, called Prestige Proof sets, also contain commemorative coins. These sets were sold from 1983 to 1997 at an additional premium. Beginning in 1999, proof sets also contain five different statehood quarters.
