Siglos Silver coin of ancient Persian empire.

Siglos
A small silver coin of the Persian Empire, struck in the ethnic Greek territories of western Turkey after the Persian conquest. A similar coin made of gold was known as the daric, equal in value to 20 sigloi.

2. Variety; king beardless, as on corresponding daric supra (attributed to Cyrus the younger).

This siglos bears all three of the major types of stamps. The owl and the three pointed pinwheel (stylized triskeles??) as well as most of the other marks shown on this page are 'positive' or 'raised' countermarks.

LYDIA, 450-330 BC, silver siglos, S-4682. Obverse: running bearded archer (probably the Persian king) holding a bow in front and with a spear over his shoulder. Reverse: oblong punch. The bow and the back foot of the archer are off the flan, 14.

The coin is a silver siglos, the obverse of which depicts the king-probably Darius III (337-330 b.c.) in a kneeling running attitude holding a bow and spear. The reverse simply bears a rectangular indentation.

The Persian Empire struck coins with Lydian types until 510, when the "archer" type characterizing Achaemenid coinage was introduced. The gold daric (8.3 g) and the silver siglos (5.3 g) continued the Lydian weight standard, ...

The last would be the coinage of Achaemenid Empire which has some relation to Lydian coinage of the 6th century BCE, Greek coinage also has some relation to Lydian coinage. The Persians issuesd silver Siglos and gold Darics.
