Special-edition klippe coins to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the National Bank of Poland putting a new coinage system into circulation were struck by the Polish State Mint.

A requirement of a Proof coin. The square flat or wire rim is a result of the intense pressure used in striking proof coins. The pressure forced the metal to flow out to the rims, to the limiting confines of the collar die.

Some flans seem to have been cut from larger pieces and have squared shape. It is hard to strike a round coin on a square flan! Much legend is lost on such coins.

The medal is nearly square in shape, and has a sculpted or curved shape (the fields are not flat). The obverse has at the upper left the incuse date 1492, at the right the billowed sails of a ship, and below, in raised script, Voyage of Columbus.

Cast blanks - Coin blanks that are molded, rather than cut from strips of metal.

Edges - Most proofs will have either square edges, or wire edges in the case of some matte and Roman finish proofs. Business strikes usually do not have square or wire edges.

Cast Coins - Coins which are made not in the usual manner of striking with dies, but by pouring molten metal into a mold.

In an uncirculated coin these will be sharply-defined. The apex of the square jewel will be a sharp point and the rectangular jewel will have a sharp ridge. The "pearls" will not show any hint of flatness.

Each drawer would have square shaped units in them, sometimes lined with felt or a soft material. The collector could slide out the drawer to examine and display the coins located in that drawer.
