Question: My son is collecting state quarters and is looking for something to hold them. We've tried something from a discount store but the quarters keep falling out. He does not want to spend too much. Can you suggest anything?
State quarters are hot and State quarter errors are even hotter. But many collectors are buying altered or counterfeit quarters for large sums of money. Don't be one of these collectors?
The state quarter program
During the program, a new statehood quarter is released by the United States Mint every "quintile," or 1/5th of a year (73 days); five designs are released each year.

Many of the "doubled die" coins you see (struck after 1997) for sale are merely strike doubled (or MDD) coins and not worth a premium. This is especially true of the so called Doubled Die state quarter.
