All of these were issued by the Confederacy after they seized the Mint at Dahlonega. No record was kept of the number of coins struck, but these have proven to be very scarce.

Unknown origin. Apparently a very high quality cast fake. The edge splits are convincing in hand and I bought this piece as authentic. Very micro-porous surface, but not rough. Device edges not as sharp as one would expect on a real specimen.

At one time it was believed that 1833 Dimes were unknown in Proof but PCGS has graded two and NGC has graded four, making it likely that at least two or three distinct examples exist.

Even more fascinating, the number of modern rarities, those minted since 1955, is unknown due to the fact most are minting errors. Determining the actual number of these is never more than an educated guess.

Semi-prooflike surfaces, excellent lustre. Fully P-L surfaces virtually unknown on Mint State examples.
