VF-25

Numismatic VF-20VF-30

VF-25 This is for "Very Fine" (the grade) and "25" (the numerical designation of the grade). In this grade about 60% of the original detail is evident, with the major devices being clear and distinct. See also Very Fine.

VF coins come in VF-20, VF-25, VF-30 and occasionally VF-35. The key word here is major. Minor features such as some of the finer hair detail, feathers, etc. will be worn. Take a roll of quarters from the bank.

The first image shows the forelegs of the buffalo on a 1937-D Buffalo Nickel graded PCGS VF-25 3 Legs. The leftmost leg of the 3 legged buffalo is almost completely missing.

I believe that if I were to try again, there's a good chance PCGS would 25 it, which I feel is its true grade, though if it did the coin would be a PQ VF-25. The hair detail is a bit weak, but the bust is strong, and the reverse is very strong.

Sellers are still permitted to list uncertified coins on eBay, provided a numeric grade is not included in the title of the listing such as MS-65 or VF-25. A numeric grade may only be included in the description of the listing.

The grade can also be designated based on a 1-70 scale letter/number combination for more precision. F-12, F15, F20, VF-25, VF35, XF40, XF45, AU50, AU53, AU55, AU58, MS60, MS61, MS 62, MS 63, MS64, MS65, MS66, MS67, MS68, MS69, MS70 (Perfect coin) ...
