Strike was an inherent problem with this coin from the beginning, and many deceptively well struck business strikes were mistaken for the matte proofs and vice versa.
Must be well struck for date with very good luster. Some black specks will not keep a coin from this grade, but toning spots or streaks, dependent upon cause, may affect eye appeal and therefore the grade.
SILVER COINS :Still fairly well struck but small details of the design, especially on the high points, may not be fully formed. Lack of such detail must not be confused with wear.

Today, one that is centered, well struck, not test-cut or punched by a banker, and otherwise problem free in very fine to extremely fine grades will run about $600 or more. Test cuts, off-center strikes, and other problems lower the cost.

It is so well struck that a "Blakesley Effect," is not present. It is easily authenticated by the metal flow and resulting irregularity most obvious on the largest clip.

For these reasons, most collectors place a higher value on a commonly found but well struck coin, than they do on a less common but poorly made one.
Choice, used in coin descriptions, is a grade modifier used to indicate a particularly nice coin for the grade. Choice usually indicates a well centered and well struck coin.
While there is a premium for well struck coins, the primary determination of value is from wear. Some coins are nearly always weakly struck. For example, early coins from New Orleans often show weakness in striking.

For someone assembling a set of VF grade Lincoln Cents, the find of the day might be a well struck 1924-S with perfect, light-brown color.
