The first copper coins of the new United States Mint struck for general circulation were the 1793 Chain Cents.
The new wreath design was Director David Rittenhouse’s answer to the newspaper criticisms of the Chain Cent.

Wreath cent Common name for the second large cent type of 1793. Complaints about the Chain cent led to the redesign resulting in the Flowing Hair with wreath reverse type.
Wreath Crown - A series of crowns issued from 1927 to 1936 excluding 1935, with a wreath on the reverse. This was the fourth coinage under George V; a proof set was issued in 1927 containing this coin.
THE WREATH
The laurel wreath is a symbol of power and victory, and figures on various ancient Greek and Roman coins. In Judea it can be found during the reign of John Hyrcanus I (134 to 104 B.C.E.).

The obverse depicts a laurel wreathed bust facing left in a military uniform with the legend "WASHINGTON AND INDEPENDENCE" and the date 1783 commemorating the end of the Revolutionary War. Clearly, the bust is meant to represent George Washington.

The basic obverse design of the Barber silver coinage consisted of a Liberty head with a cap and wreath. This figure was inspired both by classical Greek and Roman models and by the designs of various 19th-century French coinage.
