The Belgium Post Office has collaborated several times with the postal administration of another country to release a joint issue.

Belgium, one of the world's most prolific issuers of semipostals, came early to the fray, issuing its first semipostal stamps in 1910 for the benefit of an anti-tuberculosis campaign.

B: 1: precedes the European postal code on addresses in Belgium, such as B-1000 Brussels. 2: semi-postal, Scott catalogue number prefix to identify stamps other than standard postage. 3: symbol for Banknote Corp.

Cats were used for a mail service in Liege, Belgium, in 1879. In all, 37 cats were employed to carry bundles of letters to villages within a 30km radius of the city centre.

The richly illustrated volume discusses “transatlantic mail' in relation to the North Atlantic region and covers five mail systems that crisscrossed the Atlantic: Hamburg, Belgium, Netherlands, North German Union, and Switzerland mails.

John McCrae wrote his famous poem, In Flanders Fields, the day after one of his closest friends was killed in the Second Battle of Ypres, which took place in an area known as Flanders, Belgium, in April 1915.

The term means that some stamps have say BELIQUE written on them. The world identifier says that the stamp is from Belgium. Tips for exhibiting a stamp collection is also a good addition. One can say a "must have" for a beginner.

The most recognizable of these are those that are either edged or printed in black, such as the illustrated 1935 Queen Astrid stamp of Belgium.
