A chalk-surfaced paper for printing stamps. Any attempt to remove the cancel on a used chalky-paper stamp will also remove the design. Immersion of such stamps in water will cause the design to lift off.
Chalk-surfaced stamps when rubbed with silver will leave a black mark on them. Be careful when testing these and just touch a small corner or part of the stamp. Watermarks are sometimes obscured by this kind of paper.
Enamelled Paper Similar in appearance to chalk-surfaced paper, but the coating consists of a solution of zinc white and glue, which makes it brittle.
In October 1937, another 1sh6d airmail stamp (Scott C5) using the same Mercury and Globe design was issued on thick chalk-surfaced paper watermarked small crown and multiple C of A. The stamp is perforated gauge 13¼ by 13¾.
