COMPOUND PERFORATIONS: More than one gauge of perforation on the same stamp - often on perpendicular sides.
CONDITION: Quality of a stamp regarding its centering, color, and gum.

 


Compound perforations: Difference gauge perforations on different sides of a single stamp.
Condition: The appearance and quality of any philatelic material.

*Compound Perforation - two different gauges (sizes) of perforations used on the same stamp. Most frequently one gauge is used for the vertical perforations, and another for the horizontal perforations.

Compound perforations -- This has nothing to do with the condition in which a forensic investigator might find a murder victim. Instead, it refers to a stamp that has a different perf count vertically and horizontally.

Compound perforations are expressed by two numbers, such as "Perf. 12 x 12 1/2." The first number refers to the horizontal perforations at the top and bottom of the stamp. The second number is the gauge of the vertical perforations at both sides.

Compound perforations - perforations that consist of two or more gauges per stamp. These usually consist of one gauge horizontally and a different one vertically. The horizontal gauge is written first and the vertical last (12 x 8).

A stamp that is perf 12.5 x 13.0 is a compound perforation: the top and bottom perforation is 12.5 (ie. 12.5 perforations in 2cm) and the left and right side perforation is 13.0.
