Cylinder Number - The number in the margins of a sheet of stamps that identifies the cylinder which has been used in the production process. - D - ...
Cylinder Block - Block of postage stamps (usually six) from that part of the sheet where the cylinder number(s) can be seen in the margin.
Plate block - four or more stamps to which are attached the marginal paper bearing the printing plate or cylinder number inscription.
They assist in checking that all the colours have printed correctly. Blocks of stamps from the corner of the sheet, including the "traffic lights", are collected as a matched pair with the block showing the cylinder numbers.
