SPORTS, BIRDS, FLOWERS, SPACE CRAFT, ETC.
Some people like to collect stamps of maybe any one country or lots of countries, but which are all of the same subject, or topic. Sometimes, these collections are called "topicals".

A Chinese 80-fen Flowers postal stationery envelope mailed March 10, 2002, from Urumchi is shown in Figure 2. The imprinted Flower stamp design is the indicium. The registered airmail cover was uprated by the addition of six adhesive Chinese stamps.

TOPICALS: Stamps which all have a common theme, such as animals, flowers, etc.
UNUSED STAMPS: Stamps which have
never been used for postage, but may have one or two small flaws. Mystic sells stamps with small flaws at a significant discount.

Topical: 1) Stamp or cover showing a given subject. Examples are flowers, art, birds, elephants or the Statue of Liberty. 2) The collection of stamps by the topic depicted on them, rather than by country of origin. See also Thematic.

Thematic Philately - collecting stamps pertaining to a theme like birds, flowers etc.
Literature Philately - collecting literature on stamps like catalogues, research articles, handbooks, philatelic periodicals etc.

Topical: Stamp or cover or pictorial postmark showing a given subject. Examples are flowers, art, birds, elephants or the Sydney Opera House. Similar to ‘thematic’ above.

In all there are perhaps 300 different forms of watermark used on stamps, including such styles as stars, crowns, lines, letters and coats of arms, garters, heraldic emblems, flowers and anchors.

Many more people collect stamps according to topic, such as animals, like birds, or fish, people on stamps, such as authors or scientists, or sport scenes, flowers, art or crafts, the list of stamp collections by topics is practically endless.

Stamps that bear illustrations of animals, landscapes, works of art, flowers, or any other decorative theme that sets them apart from portraits or symbols. Although most pictorials are commemorative stamps, some pictorials are definitives.
