Benjamin Franklin postal card of 1951 used in 1954. According to the Scott Specialized Catalogue of United States Stamps and Covers, the value of this common card is 25¢, or about that, when sold one at a time at retail.

Another use of that term is speaking "frankly", i.e. "freely". Because Benjamin Franklin was an early United States Postmaster General, satirist Richard Armour referred to free congressional mailings as the "Franklin privilege" ...

It is addressed to the Bath Free Public Library in Bath, NH, and is franked with a Rochester NY precanceled one cent Franklin postage stamp. On the back of the card is an elaborate advertisement for "Johnston's Library Outfit".

Star, open: some of the Washington-Franklin plate blocks has an open star after the imprint and before the plate number in the margin.
