Freaks may be caused by color misregistrations, paper folds, creases, foreign objects, ink starvation, badly aligned or badly worn perforating devices, or mysterious forces.
FREAK: A stamp showing a production flaw which is not consistent - includes ink smudge and off-center perforations.
Freak: An abnormal, usually nonre-petitive occurrence in the production of stamps that results in a variation from the normal stamp, but falls short of producing an error. Most paper folds, overinking and perforation shifts are freaks.

Freak: An abnormal, usually non-repetitive occurrence in the production of stamps. Most paper folds, overinking and perforation shifts are freaks. Those abnormalities occurring regularly are called varieties or major errors.
Freak
A highly collectible form of printing or production problem. In many cases, freaks look more spectacular than major errors, but are generally more affordable.
*Freak - a mistake in production caused by an unusual circumstance not likely to be identically repeated, such as a color shift, perforation shift, inking irregularity or paper fold.
ERRORS, FREAKS, or ODDITIES includes missing perforations, missing colors, mis-cut, folded or a host of other printing errors. These stamps are supposed to be culled from the final product and destroyed.
