Eulogy for George Washington: Rare book for sale by APRL
The APRL received an exceedingly rare non-philatelic book as a donation, and is offering it for sale on eBay. Proceeds of the sale will benefit the APRL.

A 2¢ red George Washington stamp with an Akron, Ohio, precancel is shown in Figure 3.
There are 21 styles listed for Akron, and the first 11 don't match our precancel. The final 10 styles have "L" prefixes.

A more recent incident of treasure trove took place in 1957 when a mild mannered gentleman visited my booth at a stamp exhibition and produced two envelopes issued to commemorate the Bi-centennial of George Washington celebrated in 1932.

This commemorative set features 12 different portraits of George Washington. This set is inexpensive to collect and should be part of any United States collection.

Benjamin Franklin and George Washington were the first American presidents featured on United States postage stamps. This was expanded in 1922-5 when all denominations from 30c to $5 used horizontal format to show landmarks, scenery, and buffalo.

Quarter dollar first struck in 1932, as a circulating commemorative coin to celebrate the two-hundredth anniversary of George Washington's birth.

Stamp of the month ...

The first two regular postage stamps issued by the government of the USA were in 1847, one showing a picture of Benjamin Franklin, and the other a picture of George Washington.

There are plenty of pictorial cancellations that tie in nicely with a stamp and postcard. Recently, I did several on the 150th birthday of Thomas Edison. I did one on George Washington's birthday from Mount Vernon. on February 22. ...
