Glassine: A thin, semitransparent paper that is moderately resistant to the passage of air and moisture. Envelopes made of glassine are commonly used for temporary stamp storage. Glassine is also used in the manufacture of stamp hinges.

Glassine
A special, resilient, glazed paper that is nearly transparent. The glazing prevents easy passage of air, grease, and moisture.

Glassine envelopes come in many sizes, from these tiny ones barely large enough to hold one stamp, to ones that can hold an entire pane.

'Glassine' envelopes are commonly used for short-term storage (oh, ..a few years... 20 or so is not uncommon) but: An APS committee puts it this way: "Avoid glassine envelopes and any product made from glassine like the plague.

Hinges - These are glassine, similar to waxed paper but thinner. They come in green or gray. They can also come flat or pre-folded. Pre-folded varieties are usually easier to work with.

If you don't have a press or clamp, try placing the creased mint stamp between 2 small sheets of glassine paper (if using a glassine envelope, be careful that there are no folds or double layers in the glassine where the stamp lays), ...

Later on starting your stamp collection you should have a good pair of pincers and your glassine envelopes filled with collectors stamps stored in a clean container on a shelf in a quiet part of the house away from any pets, food or drinks, ...

Stockbooks consist of a number of stiff pages, made up with horizontal pockets of manilla paper, glassine paper or clear film, into which stamps are placed.

To prevent this, consider buying glassine interleaf sheets, available from most major loose-leaf album companies. They look something like wax paper and are semi-transparent. If you've experienced interlocking problems, this is your best solution.
