Hanukkah stamp: joint issue between the USPS and the Israeli Postal Administration featured the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights.
A 37¢ Dreidel special stamp (Scott 3880) for Hanukkah is shown in Figure 8. Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, celebrates the victory of Judas Maccabeus over the Hellenistic Syrians and rededication of the temple in Jerusalem in 165 B.C.
In the United States, holiday issues such as Contemporary Christmas, Traditional Christmas, Hanukkah and the like are considered special stamps.
Other recent examples involving the US are the Cranes issue with China, in 1994, and the US- Israel Hanukkah issue of 1996.
