The gum has a blue-green tinge and the paper curls.

The 12¢ Harrison of the Liberty series had been issued in June 1959 to pay the third-ounce first-class letter rate of 4¢ per ounce (Aug. 1, 1958).

The June 1997 Technical Details Booklet, reports that up to the middle of 1996, the base paper had optical brighteners in the fibres. Thus, the UV reaction on the back of the stamps is bluish white.

A type of paper devised by Harrison & Sons to prevent the problem of ink absorption in the drying process. The paper contained a phosphorescent ink that was sensed by automatic mail handling machinery.
