Cent designed by Victor D. Brenner that was first issued in 1909 and continues through today, although the reverse design was changed to the Memorial Reverse in 1959.

A third octagonal pillar of this type was at Gobweston in Lincolnshire and is now in the Museum of Lincolnshire Life in Lincoln. 1856 also saw various designs introduced in Scotland and the Midlands.

Still others collect "Lincolniana," "Lindberghiana," and similar selected subjects. Such limiting of collecting to the pictures on the stamps leads to one of the most fascinating forms of collecting - the "subject" or "topical" collection.

A year after his assassination, Abraham Lincoln’s image graced the design of the 15c grey black stamp which was released in 1866. Philatelists consider this stamp as the first American memorial stamp.
