s Intaglio - A Gravure printing process also known as recess printing, engraved, and line-engraving, intaglio is a form of recess printing; that is, the design is etched into the printing plate, below the surface.

Printing - the four printing methods most commonly used for the production of postage stamps are: line-engraving (widely referred to as recess-printing); typography (letterpress); photogravure; and lithography.

Rocking-in: when the image of the transfer roller is moved to the printing plate during the line-engraving process.
