Liner: Coated paper used as a backing for mint self-adhesive stamps. The liner allows the release of the stamp, which may then be applied with pressure to envelope paper.

Linerless Coil - self-adhesive coil stamps sold in a roll without a liner. Example: 1997 32¢ Flag over Porch stamp, Scott 3133.

Linerless - Self-adhesive coil stamps that dispenses like tape rolls.
Lithography - Flat surface printing with a design area that is ink-receptive. The area that is not to print is ink-repellant.

A recent innovation enabled by self-adhesive technology is the linerless coil stamp. While most self-adhesive stamps have backing paper, linerless coils are like a roll of adhesive tape.

Self-Adhesive: Stamp gum that adheres to envelope paper by the application of pressure alone. Most self-adhesive stamps are sold on a coated paper release liner. See also Liner, Linerless, Water-activated.

In Newfoundland, the swastika adorned each corner of the 1931 $1 air mail issue commemorating historic transatlantic flights. This stamp was also used to commemorate the flight of the airliner Dornier DO-X to Southampton, May 21-23 1932, ...
