Make-up - The contents of a stamp booklet, usually in total number of stamps of each denomination.
Make-up Rate Stamps
Non denominated stamps issued for use with stocks of previously issued first-class letter rate stamps in making up the difference between the rate, shown and a newly introduced rate. The first U.S.
*Make-up Rate Stamp - a nondenominated postage stamp, intended for use on first class mail, printed in anticipation of an increase in postal rates. The stamp is equivalent in value to the amount of the increase.
G Rate Make-up: United States non-denominated postage stamp, value 3¢, 1992.
Gratis: free label used in Jan. 1871, provided by Switzerland for correspondence by French prisoners of war..
Gratis Frimärke: (Nor.) free stamp.
C = 20 cents
D = 22 cents
E = 25 cents
F = 29 cents F rate make-up stamp 4 cents
G = 32 cents G rate make-up stamps 3 cents
G Postcard = 20cents (the current postcard rate)
H = 33 cents H rate make-up 1 cent ...
The last three (F, G, H) were accompanied by Make-Up Rate stamps as well, to pay the difference between the old rate and the new. The "F" Make-Up Rate stamp was particularly atrocious, with its bizarre text-only design.
