Mounts are sized by both height and width. They come two ways: in strips that you cut to the width you need or precut in various sizes.

Mounts are small, clear plastic sleeves. To use a mount, you simply insert the entire stamp into the mount, lightly moisten the back of the mount, and attach them to your album pages.

Mounts are often used for mint stamps or other fragile material that would be damaged by stamp hinges or being exposed in a stock book.

Hawid Mounts are small plastic pockets in which stamps are placed for mounting in the stamp album. This protects the stamps and is ideal for mint stamps. You can, however, simply use a good quality stamp hinge.

Using adhesive tapes to place items on a page will damage them and make removal difficult. A few preservation supply companies offer an acrylic double stick tape for this purpose.

Stamp Mounts - These are considerably more expensive than hinges. They are usually made out of plastic. You can purchase them pre-cut or in strips that you can cut yourself. They come in various sizes to fit the most common sizes of stamps issued.

Cellulose acetate mounts, though frowned on by the upper element, are desirable in many instances. The writer has used them, happily, for mint plate blocks and for souvenir sheets and full sheets.

I'd suggest that you use these mounts for never-hinged stamps with a value of a dollar or more. This protects the stamp and its value as a never-hinged item. They're rather expensive, so consider using them only for your never-hinged stamps.

Stamps should be put on pages either with hinges (small rectangles of special gummed paper) or with mounts (little self-adhesive plastic envelopes in many sizes to fit stamps and covers). Mounts keep stamps in the condition in which you bought them.
