Pardon me, sir, but your stamp has a hole in it. Several, in fact.

 


Perfins. Stamps punched with "perforated initials" or other designs and used generally by commercial firms in order to deter theft.

Perfins: Stamps punched with 'perforated initials' or designs of holes that stand for letters, numbers or symbols. Perfins are normally used by a business or government office to discourage pilferage or misuse of stamps by employees.

Perforation - The punching out of holes between stamps to ease separation.
Perforation Gauge - A device for calculating the number of perforations contained by a stamp.

perfins - What an odd name! What it means is that there are perforations "in" the stamp that usually spell out a word or some initials. For example, stamps used by the Government of Canada once had the initials O.H.M.S. punched into the stamp.

PERFINs are stamps which have been punched with small pins to form a design or a company's initials. This helped companies make the stamps easier to trace which cut down on employee pilfering of the company's postage stamps for personal use.

Perfins: Stamps perforated through the face with identifying initials, designs or holes in coded positions. Perfins are normally used by a business or government office to discourage pilferage or misuse of stamps by employees.

Canadian perfins are special postage stamps perforated with initials or other distinguishing marks.

The perforations are generally in the form of initials or a symbol that identify the owner of the stamp. Perfins are produced by businesses or organizations to discourage theft or misuse of their stamps.

Precancellation of stamps of this country was effected by means of oversized holed perfins. Little is known other than stamps defaced in this fashion often received additional cancellations at the office of destination.
