REGULAR ISSUE: Also known as a definitive, this stamp is issued over a long period of time and in various denominations. Regular issues are usually small in size.

Regular issues -- aka definitives -- are issued in great quantities and remain available for a much longer period of time than commemoratives. Today's Forever Stamps, are issued in quantities ample enough to satisfy collector need.

Twelve Gold Coast regular issue stamps were overprinted "Ghana Independence 6th March 1957" to mark the event. The 1/2-penny stamp from the set (Ghana Scott 5) is shown in Figure 10.

Definitives - Regular issues of postage stamps that are normally sold for a longer period of time. Normally printed in large numbers.
Des. - Abbreviation for 'designed by'.

The regular issue (7 August 1990), commemorating the Nineteenth World Congress of the International Union of Forestry and Research Organizations, held in Montreal, was a sheet of 20 containing four different designs.

In most cases, they were produced by overprinting regular issues with "WAR TAX" or "WAR STAMP", though the overprint "WAR" was occasionally used (as in the issues of British Honduras).

For foreign collectors who do not have a ScottsŪ Catalog -- ask by date and name of stamp for commeratives. For regular issues -- date and value of stamp (such as 50¢ of 1990's) I'll do my best to help you out.

Definitive. A stamp issued for an indefinite period to pay a particular rate of postage. Also called "regular issues".
Denomination. The face value of a stamp.

Such stamps may, or may not, be supplied free, but are a check upon usage and expenditure. During the Elizabethan period in Canada, regular issue definitives were overprinted 'G' to note Government usage.
