Selvedge Inscription
Finally, the words "GRIZZLY BEAR" and "OURS BRUN" appear at the bottom of the stamp, serving to identify the animal's species in English and French.
Selvedge
Se-Tenant
Pairs, strips, or blocks of stamps of different values or designs printed together. Such se-tenant stamps should not normally be split by collectors.
Guillochis: (Fr.) selvedge.
Guillotine perforation: single-line perforation made by a machine resembling a guillotine.
Selvedge - The gummed, stitched, or stapled margin of a booklet pane usually left in the discarded booklet after the pane has been used.

"Gutter snipes" result not when the perforating process goes awry, but when the finished sheets are mis-cut, so that the panes include parts of the selvedge that are normally cut off and discarded - or even part of the adjoining pane.

Later advertisements appeared on the sheet margins (selvedge), on interleaved pages in stamp booklets and on labels attached to stamp panes (also in booklets). Also appear on back of stamps e.g. New Zealand.
In Australia, the number of times stamp reprints are done is tracked by the ‘koala count’—the number of koalas printed in the selvedge adjacent to stamps down either side of a sheet.
