Sheets usually comprise two to 12 (or more) panes. Panes are the units into which sheets are divided before delivery to the post office for sale.

Centering usually varies from side to side or corner to corner on a sheet, so I have specified the range of centering where applicable.

These are ideal for stamps collectors who need a safe, convenient way to store and display sheets of stamps of 20, 50, and 100-pane sizes.

Prestige Booklet - a booklet containing several face different stamps, descriptive text, and illustrations. The first Prestige Booklet (Scott BK279) was issued in 2000 and honored U.S. Navy Submarines.
Lettersheet
A piece of paper with a stamp already printed on it so the user can simply fold the letter and send it on its way. Most countries that have a postal stationery have released at least one lettersheet.
Sheets usually have a strip of blank paper around the edge. Long ago, the Post Office also printed some information along the outside edges. This could be the name of the printing company that printed the stamps.
Sheets of stamps may or may not have a gutter strip. These gutter strips may be illustrated or contain 'traffic lights' (circles of colour).
This sheet features a map showing Lake Erie, the cities of Detroit, Sarnia (named after Guernsey), York (Toronto) and Queenston Heights. On the £1 stamp Sir Isaac Brock is shown on his horse Alfred.

3. Sheet Watermark: The watermark is spread over all or part of the sheet and only part of it shows on each stamp. Stamps of Hungary 1898-99 are examples of this type of watermark.

Souvenir sheet - a special postal issue, typically used to commemorate special events, which incorporates one or more stamps. It is produced on small format paper with wide margins, often printed with a unifying background and/or title.
Souvenir Sheet - Stamps issued in a special format primarily for stamp collectors. Most souvenir sheets include only one of each stamp design and usually have a special decorative border.
Miniature Sheet -- A smaller-than-normal pane of stamps issued only in that form or in addition to full panes.

The souvenir sheet issued in 1984 to commemorate the National Philatelic Exhibition in Montréal contained four stamps that featured steam locomotives, and the selvedge depicted a line drawing of a locomotive alongside the logo of the exhibition.

One sheet of the first U.S. airmail stamp was printed with the Curtiss "Jenny" biplane on it flying upside down. A collector purchased the sheet, containing 100 stamps, at a Washington, D.C., post office for $24 in 1918.

In order to designate the position of the stamp on the large sheet of 240 stamps, as compared to our present sheets of 100, or 70, or even 50, it was decided to use key letters in the lower corners.

Canceled To Order (CTO): Stamps are "canceled to order," usually in full sheets, by many governments. Often, the cancels are printed on the stamps at the same time that the stamp design is printed.
Stamps doesn't list values for complete sheets. If you're wanting to get a value for an entire sheet of stamps you will have to try one of the other methods. Another shortcoming is that this guide doesn't include last year's stamps.

The first stamps appearing in the early 1840's were imperforate- without holes- needing to be cut to separate them from the sheet. Soon after perforations appeared. Cutting out tiny holes became the most common way of separating stamps.
