Specialist societies promote, study and inform

Are you looking for a new collecting area? Do you need more information about an area that you already collect?

 


Specialist: A stamp collector who intensively studies and collects the stamps and postal history of a given country or area, or who has otherwise limited his collecting field. ‘Marcophilist’ means much the same thing.

Specialist: Stamp collector who specialises in a particular field if of philately.
Special stamps: Non-regular stamps issued on special occasions.

Specialist - A stamp collector who focuses on a limited area such as stamps from a certain time period, country, topic, etc.

Bureau Specialist - the monthly journal of the Bureau Issues Association (USSS) from 1930 to 1966 when the journal was renamed The United States Specialist.

Specialist collectors may have a want list with a rather different character; instead of looking for one of each major type, they are looking for particular color shades, particular postal markings, uses in particular locations, and so forth.

A specialist in a particular numismatic area. (i.e. A gold expert, a Morgan Dollar expert, a CC-Mint expert, etc.)

To postal history specialists, a commercial cover is far more desirable than one that originated philatelically. A commercial cover is one that traveled through the mail for business purposes, such as to carry a gas bill or subscription payment.

We’ve designed the site so that specialists can search for items relevant to their specific wants, while collectors who want to look at many stamps can use broad search options to view the listings in a logical, orderly manner.

This could be a collectibles or antiques dealer, a certified stamp specialist, or, as mentioned in Method 4, could be someone in the local stamp club.

Some people like collectors stamps by the country (traditional), and some by the design on the stamps (topical), while some people collect many copies of just one stamp issue or just one type of stamp (specialist), ...

It has evolved into (quoting the masthead of its fine publication The United States Specialist) "An association of collectors to promote the study of the philatelic output of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and of postage and revenue stamped ...
