Splice - the repair of a break in a roll of stamp paper, or the joining of two rolls of paper for continuous printing. Stamps printed over a splice are usually removed before the normal stamps are issued.

 


Splice
A taped joint connecting two pieces of a roll of stamp paper while still on the press. Used to repair broken webs or extend the length of a given roll.

paper was intentionally used on some stamps by the Continental Bank Note Co. in the course of printing its Large Banknote stamps of 1873. 2.) double paper resulted on some rotary press stamps when a tear or cut in the web was repaired with a splice.
