Thematic collecting - the collection and arrangement of stamps by the theme or subject of the design rather than by country of issue. Also known as topical (or subject) collecting.

Thematic collecting - Collecting a specific theme. Thin - A thin is an area in which part of the back of a postage stamp has been torn away by clumsy removal from a cover or album page.
The book devotes more pages to topical and thematic collecting. Examples offered are Olympic issues, postal history, local philately, wartime mail and cinderellas among others.
While the ATA serves as a general organization for all topical or thematic collecting, each unit covers a specific topic or subject area. Most units publish a journal, and some have web pages that tell more about the topic.
When the stamps that you collect are all on one subject, such as space, paintings, transport, sports or animals, this is called thematic collecting.
