The ZIP code project was announced by Postmaster General J. Edward Day in November 1962, to go into effect on July 1, 1963, the 100th anniversary of free city delivery of mail in the United States.

Type in the Stock #, Brief Description of item and the cost each in the boxes provided. Be careful to type the correct "Stock Order" letters and numbers.

Sectional Center Facility (SCF) - A postal facility that serves as the processing and distribution center (P&DC) for Post Offices in a designated geographic area as defined by the first three digits of the ZIP Codes of those offices.

The service essentially became obsolete when the Post Office Department decided to reorganize its mail handling/distribution system by adopting the sectional center concept (see ZIP Code).
