One solvent to avoid or to use with great care is Acetone. It's very, very good at removing grease. However it's also very, very good at dissolving plastics and paint. It's also difficult to find commercially in a pure form.
I am not sure what type of AR coatings are put on camera lenses, but many are quite durable and resistant to many solvents (we use isopropanol, methanol, acetone, toluene, sometimes even dish washing detergent).
