Achromatic / Apochromatic Doublets
Special lens systems (achromatic or apochromatic doublets) using two or more pieces of glass with different refractive indexes can reduce or eliminate this problem.

Achromatic: Without color. A lens which refracts light of all colors equally is said to be achromatic.
Acid Paper: Nonpermanent papers (PH below 7.0).

Achromatic
A subject, scene, or Image without color.

Achromatic
A term which describes a lens system which is corrected for chromatic aberration.
(see Chromatic Aberration) ...

Achromatic Colors
The "hueless" colors black, gray, and white, that is, the whole range of gray levels between black and white.

Achromatic Color - The primary colors of light (red, green, and blue) used by scanners, monitors, and other computer devices. When combined, they produce white light.

ACHROMATIC - Free from chromatic aberration. An achromatic lens is able to transmit light without separating it into colors.
ACUTANCE - A measure of the sharpness with which the film can produce the edge of an object.

Achromatic Doublet
A lens in which achromatic correction is achieved by cementing together two lenses made from different types of glass.

achromatic color reproduction
color separation technique whereby the neutral compound is digitally replaced by a corresponding level of black; also refer to gray component replacement.

-Achromatic - lens system that has been corrected for chromatic aberration.
-Acid - chemical substance with a pH value below 7.

Achromatic Lens An Achromatic lens is a system of lenses joined in order to minimize color and shape distortions (chromatic and spherical aberrations) that are inherent in a single lens system.

ACHROMATIC COLORS-Colors perceived as having no hue (white, black, gray, and silver). ACHROMATISM -The absence of chromatic aberration. ACID, ACETIC-A colorless liquid of pungent odor used in stop baths and in fixing baths.

Fluorite lenses are semi-apochromatic, meaning their degree of correction lies between the achromatic and apochromatic.

It's a pair of achromatic lens element groups, arranged symmetrically before and behind the diaphragm.

Close-up lenses (filters): Often described as "the poor man's macro" close-up lenses are single-element (or occasionally two-element achromatic) meniscus lenses, similar to those in reading glasses, ...

Try to get a diopter called “two element' or “achromatic' like the Nikon or Canon versions, they are better quality than the one element diopters. Remember, when searching on-line, they are sometimes under “close-up lens'.

I use an 70-300 Apo Macro Zoom with an achromatic attachment lens and 60 cm extension ring. The subject can be illuminated with a camera mounted Speedlite. It gives reasonable images at aperture 22.

A special design of lens that is highly corrected to avoid chromatic aberration by bringing the three blue, red and green wavelengths to one point of focus rather than the usual blue and green of an achromatic lens.

Otherwise, a set of extension tubes is probably the best accessory to have with you, as they let any telephoto lens or zoom focus closer. An achromatic close-up lens sized for your telephoto or zoom can also help get quality close-ups (Canon, ...

Chromatic aberrations are reduced if special lens systems such as achromatic or apochromatic doublets are used. These use two or more pieces of glass with different reflective characteristics. Not even these are completely perfect however.
