Acutance
Techniques Glossary Acutance
A measure of how the step from high to low density reproduces in a developed film that has been exposed to a high contrast subject.

Acutance describes how quickly image information transitions at an edge, and so high acutance results in sharp transitions and detail with clearly defined borders.

ACUTANCE - A measure of the sharpness with which the film can produce the edge of an object.
ADAPTER RING - Also called a "Stepping ring" - enables a filter of one size to be attached to a lens of another size.

-Acutance - objective measurement of image sharpness.
-Adapter ring - circular mount, available in several sizes, enabling accessories such as filters to be used with lenses of different diameters.

Acutance
Acutance is a measurement of a film's ability to record edge sharpness, particularly between differing tonal areas. Slow films do this better than fast films, producing more appprent sharpness in the image.

edge acutance
the edge sharpness of the printed image, controlled by the screen stencil, screen tension, ink thixotropy, and related factors.

Acutance has to do with contrast. In particular, the contrast of adjacent, or near adjacent, pixels. The human eye and brain interpret light pixels lying next to dark pixels as an edge. The quicker the transition from light to dark (i.e.

Emulsion Definition Several factors, including graininess, resolving power (resolution), and acutance, affect the definition or capability of an emulsion to produce a clear, sharp image. GRAININESS.

However, the solvent action reduces the acutance of the negative because sharp edges are partially dissolved and replaced with a more uniform deposit of silver.

Sharpening is a simple, effective way of increasing the quality of a picture using two specific parameters, resolution and acutance. Resolution refers to the camera and how well it can record fine detail. Acutance refers to line edge sharpness.

The color accuracy, sharpness (acutance), and durability are simply stunning. Velvia is a sick joke. If you think the saturation of Kodachrome is poor, it's probably because you're using a Japanese zoom lens.

The Provia F ISO 100, 4000 dpi scan comes in tied with or very slightly behind the 10D image due to slightly less edge acutance in the image detail areas and a little noticeable film grain.
