Adobe gamma
A utility for calibrating and characterizing a monitor to produce an ICC profile for use in Adobe Photoshop and other ICC-aware applications.

Well, first of all, forget Adobe Gamma, that cheesy "calibration" program that comes with Photoshop. It's almost useless. I hate to think of all the students who told me that their system (and prints) looked WORSE after running that program.

You probably still have Adobe Gamma loading when your system boots. Now that you have a real color management solution, you don't need it anymore.

DPReview calibrate their monitors using Adobe Gamma at the (fairly well accepted) PC normal gamma 2.2, this means that on our monitors we can make out the difference between all of the (computer generated) grayscale blocks below.

Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Elements come with Adobe Gamma, a calibration wizard that takes you, step-by-step, through your monitor setup.

First, you can quickly create a profile by eye using simple tools like Colorific ($50) or Adobe Gamma which is bundled with Photoshop. These profiles are better than nothing, but tend to be only an approximation.

Alternatively Adobe Gamma (ships with Photoshop) will give you some rough calibration. This is important to remember, since you will otherwise make adjustments based on false information! ...

Daylight is a good compromise if you can somehow swing it. Also, you're screen had better be working properly. Be sure it has warmed up, and use adobe gamma, or other tools to be sure you have a proper black point, and no serious color casts.

or your computer you're probably fine for non-critical work without this calibrator. If you can't get one of these calibrators then the software in the Mac OS (Apple Menu > System Preferences > Displays > Color > Calibrate) or Windows (Adobe Gamma) ...

It is called Adobe Gamma. After Photoshop is installed this calibration program is available to run from the 'control panel' of the Windows OS. Eye One and Monaco Systems have very capable monitor calibration packages.

To get a faithful reproduction of your image you can adjust your monitor's gamma by using software supplied with your video card or through programmes such as Adobe Gamma supplied with Adobe Photoshop.
