The rate of drying is controlled by adjusting the velocity, temperature, and humidity of the air in the drying chamber.
By holding the camera upside-down, you are stopping dust from falling into the camera's sensor chamber. This doesn't completely stop particles from getting inside, but it certainly helps. If you are quick enough, you won't get that much dust inside.

There can be no visible light, not a red or amber safe-light. It is a good idea to start by bathroom or a laundry room with no windows. Use masking tape, foam weather stripping, towels or rags to block any light that may be spill into the work area.

I always turn the camera off when changing lenses, and I turn the camera downward or straight out rather than face up to put the lens on. I blow out the chamber where the mirror and shutter are with a blower bulb, regularly.
