Ambient metering range
Techniques Glossary Ambient metering range
The range, usually indicated as a range of EVs (exposure values), that the meter can work in. The larger the range the more versatile the meter.

Ambient Light
Ambient Light refers to any light in a given scene that isn't artificial light, light supplied by the photographer. Sunlight, candlelight or light emanating from surrounding lamps can produce ambient light in a photograph.

For example, say the ambient exposure is 1/125 at f8. The background will be correctly exposed (the ambient light), and the flash will be in balance with that light (see Mexico Friends image).

Ambient light - The natural light in a scene.Archival - The ability of a material, including some printing papers and compact discs, to last for many years.

(*) Aperture - A small, circular opening inside the lens that can change in diameter to control the amount of light reaching the camera's sensor as a picture is taken.

Ambient light - Using natural light in a scene.
Aperture - Behind the lens of your camera is a small, circular opening that can change in diameter to control the amount of light reaching the camera's sensor as a picture is taken.

Ambient Light
The general (and often undesirable) Illumination surrounding the shooting or projection area; not exactly the same as Available Light or Natural Light.

Ambient Light
The most important factor in any action shot is ambient light. The reasoning is fairly straightforward. In order to capture an action shot, you need a very high shutter speed. How high is high?

Ambient light - The natural light in a scene or light in a room without using flash.
Archival - The ability of a material, including ink, print papers and compact discs, to last for many years.

Ambient Light
Ambient light is the unadulterated and unassisted light in any environment. It may be the sunlight, it maybe the lamps in your apartment, plus the sunlight, it might be the light from neon signs, street lights and moonlight at night.

Ambient Light The available light completely surrounding a subject. Light already existing in an indoor or outdoor setting that is not caused by any illumination supplied by the photographer.

Ambient Light: Light already existing in an indoor or outdoor scene independent of any light supplied by the photographer.

Ambient lighting. Soft, nondirectional lighting that bounces off walls, ceilings, and other objects in the scene, rather than appearing to come from a single light source.

Ambient Light The natural light in a scene. Angle of Flash Coverage The measurement in degrees of the angle formed by lines projecting from the center of the flash to the extremities of the field of coverage.

AMBIENT LIGHT - Existing light surrounding a subject; the light that is illuminating a scene without any additional light supplied by the photographer. "Available light" and "existing light" are two other terms that mean the same thing.

Ambient light: The natural light in a scene.
Anti-Shake or Image Stabilization: Minimizes the effect of camera shake by eliminating the blur to deliver clean and crisp images every time.

Ambient Light. All scenes have some amount of fill light - regardless of whether this has been added intentionally. Light from the main source bounces off walls and other objects, which collectively acts as a fill light.

Ambient Light: The natural, available light in a scene.
Backlighting: The light coming from behind the subject.

Ambient vs. Flash
When using flash at any time, you are really dealing with two different sources of light. You have the ambient light-that's the light that's already in the setting, coming from lamps or a window or the sun.

2) AMBIENT LIGHT EXPOSURE
This is the technique that I found, both when I started and when I see other beginners' work, to be what gets done wrong the most often. If your ambient exposure is correct, a lot of things fall into place.

Low ambient light Conversely, in deep or dark water you’ll need slower shutter speeds.

Ambient light contributes very little to 'wide-field astrophotography,' so you want to control focus manually and set the lens at infinity.

Ambient Light: Bright and sunny conditions offer the potential to use very fast shutter speeds. Bright overcast conditions provide less light, therefore less versatility. As clouds thicken, your options decrease further.

Ambient light is the light from a light source (in this case, the sun) that falls upon the subject we're photographing. Reflected light is the light reflected from the subject we're photographing (in this case, the Matterhorn).

Once I had my ambient exposure set, I marked out the path that I wanted Abby to take and then positioned the TritonFlash™ so that it would hit her at about a 40-45 degrees angle.

The "white dot" ambient light sensor that the D2x and D2Xs had is missing from the D3. It seems that this was an idea that just didn't provide enough added benefit to justify continuing with.

Very accurate ambient light metering. The camera already knows what the exposure should be because the image sensor is exposed to the image while you are composing.

First and foremost is that it will not do TTL ambient light metering with Canon's consumer level camera bodies. It will only work with TTL ambient light metering with the 1n, 1v and EOS 3.

This is only a concern in scenes with some ambient light.

The advantage of taking photos during a full moon is that we can use slow shutter speeds without using an ND filter and we will get the same ambient lighting as that of an afternoon.

A flash photography technique that balances flash illumination with the scene's ambient light. This automatic operation utilizes the some camera's Automatic Balanced Fill Flash System with TTL Multi Sensor and a compatible dedicated TTL Speedlight.

Two more things that can really help, but are not needed, are a remote shutter release, and also a lens hood, which can help block surrounding ambient light (such as if you're around a surrounding city, or with street lights).

Digital cameras often misinterpret the ambient light, which results in images that appear either too warm (too much red) or too cool (too much blue). This is referred to as the white balance, and may need to be corrected.

The high Kelvin temperature associated with ambient light at these times of day causes the images to take on a deep bluish cast.

I set the focal length of the lens on my Panasonic L1 DSLR to 50mm and moved in close so the pop-up flash would be strong enough to offset the harsh ambient light.

It also increases effective fill-flash range by increasing the proportionate exposure from a flash and reducing the time during which ambient light is allowed in.

The switch to phase-detection AF depends on the amount of light falling onto the cameras' sensors, which is dependant on lens aperture as well as ambient light levels.

Furthermore, my monitor has a black, non-reflective shield around it to prevent ambient, room light from hitting the screen and affecting my ability to accurately judge color. As a result, for my system, what I see is what I get.
