Antireflection coating One or more thin layers of refractive material ( often magnesium fluoride ) coated upon the surface of a lens to minimize surface reflection. It is deposited on the lens by vaporization of the metal in vacuum.
lens coating - A microscopic antireflection coating applied to lenses that reduces flare and increases contrast. All modern camera lenses are coated. lens hood - a shade fitted around the lens to exclude stray light. lens mount ...
Nikon has developed a technology to form a coating with very low refractive index even in the vacuum UV (VUV, 200-150nm) region, and greatly improved the angular performance of antireflection coating.
The two opposite transmitting faces are often coated with an antireflection coating to reduce spurious reflections.
