Auto Exposure
The camera automatically calculates the best aperture-shutter speed combination for lighting conditions.

Auto Exposure Bracketing: Auto Exposure Bracketing performs automatic exposure bracketing with varied shutter speed and/or aperture.

Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB)
Most digital cameras have auto exposure bracketing (AEB).

Auto Exposure Bracketing - a setting on your camera that allows it to take multiple pictures at different exposure levels when you push the shutter release
Autofocus - a setting that allows your camera to put the subject into focus for you ...

Auto Exposure and Auto Focus Lock

Pressing this button locks the current exposure and focus, they remain locked for as long as you hold the button even if you press or release the shutter release button.

AUTO EXPOSURE or AUTOEXPOSURE - Shutter speed and aperture are set automatically by the camera based on its interpretation of the camera's exposure meter readings.

Auto exposure lock
A push-button, switch, or lever that locks in exposure after the initial reading has been made, regardless of a change in camera position or light conditions after the lock is activated.

Auto Exposure Bracketing is usually a good way to capture the full dynamic range. Most cameras can capture 3 shots at +/-2 EV intervals, which is a good exposure range for many typical scenes.

Auto Exposure Lock (AE Lock)
You can adjust exposures with a procedure called autoexposure lock (AE Lock) that works much like focus lock.

Auto exposure system. Some services have serious flaws in their auto exposure systems that cause unpredictable results. I have a set of test images that spot these problems quickly.

Auto Exposure Modes
The camera manufacturers have come up with all sorts of ingenious metering systems to try to help, there are now multi mode metering systems, which give you a choice of 'center weighting', ...

AE
Automatic Exposure. A method of linking the camera exposure settings to the ambient or reflected light level.

Auto exposure bracketing with the Rebel T1i is possible over a ± 2-stop range, from -4 stops to + 4 stops.

An auto exposure mode where the user selects the shutter speed and the camera sets the necessary aperture to give correct exposure.

Programmed Auto Exposure A mode in which the camera automatically selects the optimum combination of shutter speed and aperture. Push-Processing Refers to increasing the development time of film.

Programmed Auto Exposure Camera: An automatic exposure camera that automatically selects both the shutter and the aperture to properly expose the picture. (point and shoot) Most modern 35mm SLRs have some sort of programmed automation.

AE - Programmed Auto Exposure
The camera selects shutter & aperture according to light conditions; you cannot select them yourself. Suitable for most "average" situations but limiting to the advanced user.
AE - Shutter Priority ...

Automatic Exposure; Three kinds are available: programmed auto exposure, aperture-priority auto exposure and shutter-priority auto exposure.

auto exposure - An in-camera exposure system that attempts to set the aperture and shutter speed (and CCD sensitivity in many digital cameras) to get the best exposure for the current lighting situation.

Auto Exposure Bracketing: A camera option that automatically sets the exposure of the film to varied shutter speeds and/or aperture settings. See also: Bracketing.

The most important options within auto exposure include Program (the camera makes all the exposure decisions); aperture-priority (you set the aperture and the camera selects a shutter speed); ...

This can be done manually or a bit faster and more convinient via auto exposure bracketing by the camera. "ABC" (Auto Bracketing Control), "AEB" (Auto Exposure Bracketing) is featured by many mid and upper class cameras.

linear ones which were popular before auto focus and auto exposure technology. Circular polarizers come in standard models and with warm tone characteristics that add a touch of yellow to the photo.

There are several reasons for turning off your auto exposure and setting your exposure manually when you photograph the moon. The main reason is that when you point your camera at the full moon, the moon is a little bright spot in a sea of darkness.

As horrible as this may sound in this day of auto exposure, auto focus, auto image stabilization, and auto white balance, when it comes to printing, ...

I am actually just learning today about Auto Exposure Bracketing and then using the pictures for HDR.
I own a Sony DSLR-A290 and have set my priority on aperture priority. I have selected my AEB and am ready to shoot.

High contrast scenes and bright snow throw off your auto exposure. Cold weather and condensation can damage your equipment and batteries drain faster.

With most modern SLRs you can choose Auto Exposure Bracketing, and the camera will do the work of changing the exposure settings for you. Be aware that there's a big extra cost to bracketing.

fixed/auto focus, auto exposure, auto flash, to fairly comprehensive control, e.g. exposure, aperture, film speed equivalent, focus etc. Some cameras will carry both as options.

Exposure compensation is a dial or on some cameras a button which is used to override the camera meter in auto exposure modes. It should be left on zero setting for normal exposures.

Shutter priority exposure
An auto exposure mode where the user selects the shutter speed and the camera sets the necessary aperture to give correct exposure.

Exposure - the amount of light captured by the camera. Digital cameras feature auto exposure, sometimes known as programmed auto exposure, in which the camera reads the amount of light in the scene and then sets the exposure automatically for you.

had a solar powered cell and auto exposure.
it was easy to use and worked well as long as there was enough light.faster film helped too.
had a iris diaphragm shutter and flash sync to 1/500 sec.

When making an auto exposure the camera is programmed to look at a number of spots in the scene, and if the camera was designed to use bottom weighted metering, most of those spots will be in the lower half of the picture.

Â- Program AE: AE is auto exposure and in this mode the camera determines the exposure automatically and you can select certain other settings like focusing, manually.

Through the Lens - term used when talking about auto focus or auto exposure systems that work through the camera's lens.

Most models include auto exposure and a built-in automatic flash so they may be used anywhere.

The examples below compare the usual result of auto exposure (left) to that of a slightly underexposed manual exposure (right).

If you point a camera at a gray card and shoot fully on auto exposure, you will get a medium toned result. We know how bright the picture will be, so the only thing in question is what color it will be.

Overexposed image (too light) - Should have locked in focus and exposure on a lighter area, then recompose. Also could have used Auto Exposure Bracketing or changed the EV (exposure value) to a minus (-).

Well, if you have a point-and-shoot camera, then it may not matter too much. Simply set the camera to automatic mode and snap the picture. The camera's in-built auto exposure settings will take care of the shutter speed settings for you.

It allows the photographer to choose a shutter speed setting and allow the camera to decide the correct aperture. This is sometimes referred to as Shutter Speed Priority Auto Exposure, or Tv (time value) mode.

then the camera's meter will be thrown, so for insurance try shooting one photo at the camera's recommended exposure settings, then bracket - shoot another photo at 1 stop over the camera's setting and 1 stop under. If your camera has auto exposure ...

You can use your jeans, a gray photo backpack, grayish tree bark, a rock, etc. Once you have this reading, push the Auto Exposure lock button on the camera to lock and retain that reading in place, and then re-compose the picture and shoot.

Skilled Photographers know how to use aperture and shutter speed to achieve creative effects. Different scene modes will help optimize the camera's auto exposure system, achieving ideal results for many popular shooting situations.
