Yes, this is quite an undertaking, but unless you want to pay a company to scan them for you, this is your best option for backing up your prints.

Backing Up
Making copies of important computer files such as digital photographs in case the originals are damaged and cannot be accessed.
Backlighting
Term used to describe shooting towards the light, so your subject is lit from behind.

Backing up images. Even if you have multiple memory cards with your camera, it's a good idea to back up the data on the memory cards. After all, those vacation photos are not replaceable should the memory card break or get lost.

Backing up to a hard drive and storing it in a bank vault or other secure location is certainly an option. Taking advantage of the myriad offsite, or 'cloud' options is another.

For backing up the operating system drive I would recommend Acronis TrueImage Home. It supports a large variety of RAID controllers and if your system is installed on RAID 0, this is definitely the program of choice.

You've heard admonishments about backing up your work and you are going to hear it again here. Save your original RAW files in more than one place. I routinely back up ALL my image files (RAW, TIF, and PSD) on two different computers, plus two CD's.
