Banding
An artifact of color gradation in an image, when graduated colors break into larger blocks of a single color, reducing the "smooth" look of a proper gradation.

Banding
An artifact of color gradation where graduated colors are reduced to larger blocks of a single color.

banding
Horizontal, vertical, or, more rarely, diagonal bands of discoloration inadvertently placed in an image during creation or rendering.

banding
An artefact in an image or moving image where a gradual change in colour or brightness is replaced by a series of discrete, visible changes, e.g.

banding
(1) application of banded decoration to glass or ceramic items with a banding wheel; (2) undesirable harsh, well defined transitions on a print.

Banding
Depiction error often occurring in dark sections of an image when shooting with a high sensitivity setting. Smooth lines of brightness or colour look like bands of brightness or colour.

Banding
A visible stepping of shades in a gradient. A artifact of colour gradation in computer imaging, when graduated colours break into larger blocks of a single colour, reducing the smooth look of a proper gradation.

Color Banding - The appearance of visible bands of colors that replace subtle gradations in order to accommodate a reduced palette.

Banding noise is introduced when the camera reads the data produced by the sensor; it's camera-dependent. Banding noise is most visible at high ISOs, in shadows and when an image has been dramatically brightened.

Banding
The unpleasant effect of graduated colours breaking into large sections of a single colour.

Diagonal banding very visible in the native JPEG and QImage Pro images, again Bibble suppresses most of it although it's just about starting to show through.

Noise and banding suppression settings on individual images"
The new 'individual image' noise and banding slider tools are on the 'Focus' tool tab. I like Capture One's sharpening tool.

I'm getting banding in the sky when I use Relative Colorimetric Intent.

Reduces visible banding related to gradients when using the Gradient tool.

Shutter Banding Banding is associated with focal-plane shutters. It is caused by defective shutter operation. Banding can be identified by the presence of uneven illumination streaks across the line of flight.

There are so many fewer levels of tones (256 versus a RAW image's 65,536) that if you make any large adjustments to the image you may get banding, noticeable transitions in what should be smooth gradations.

First, since Exposure/Brightness does not stretch the tones, the use of the tool will not cause banding.

A visual defect (also called banding) in an image created by insufficient amounts of data to maintain the appearance of continuous tone.

The added color information of RAW files helps to avoid posterization or banding, such as found in 8-bit JPEG files. This banding occurs when there aren't enough tonal values to display continuous tonality.

The result would be banding in the shadows. We will have to add a couple of extra bits to ensure the same number of levels that the human eye can distinguish.

There's banding because we've stretched the histogram so much, there's non-uniform illumination, possibly due to lens vignetting and sensor variation, and there are now dozens of dust spots visible.

Libraries come and go and will ultimately be improved by banding together. jQuery's new selector engine (Sizzle) is now officially being used in MochiKit, Prototype, Dojo, and TinyMCE.

Chromatic aberrations (CAs) manifest as unwanted colour banding, especially around high contrast edges. They occur when a lens bends some colours of light more than others, resulting in disperison. Lenses are designed to minimise CAs.

Be careful about making too strong adjustments, especially when working with images shot in JPEG (you have more flexibility in adjustments with RAW). Watch your histogram-if you get a lot of breakup in it (it looks like a comb), beware of banding in ...

The mechanical tolerances of the toner and paper feed mechanisms cause banding, which can reveal information about the individual device's mechanical properties.

Posterization - A banding effect produced by reducing the number of gray tones in an image.

Canon today released a minor firmware update which corrects a phenomenon in which vertical magenta-colored banding may appear in still images, as well as some other minor fixes. Read more

If you limit your working space early, your color adjustments and retouching work will be artificially limited, and in some cases this can cause banding.

Incorrect WB will cause you to use multiple adjustment layers (Levels, Curves, Color Balance, HSL, and/or Photo Filter) with masks in attempts to balance out your neutrals. You'll also lose detail and cause color-banding between tones.

Working in 16 bit mode gives you more freedom to adjust tones and colors without introducing two digital workflow nasties, posterization and banding.

When the flash goes off, the light will be diffused, casting a more natural glow over your subjects. You can get a diffuser at your local camera store, or if you're strapped for cash, make your own diffuser by rubber-banding a piece of white tissue ...

Watch the shadow areas as noise or banding begins to creep in as well.

black to white it is necessary to have 256 differentiations of tone from black to white. If you have significantly fewer differentiations the human eye will begin to perceive breaks between the tones which will result in posterization and banding in ...
