BLOCKING OUT A BACKGROUND It is a simple matter to eliminate or block out an unwanted background in product photography. The technique involves two negatives. Two separate pictures are made of the product setup.

 


-Blocking out - method of painting selected areas of a negative with an opaque liquid on the non-emulsion side. Since light is unable to penetrate these areas they appear white on the final print.

When it's mostly sunny but there's a high cloud in the sky blocking out some of the light, you can use the slightly overcast F11 rule to get the right exposure. Just set your aperture to F11 and pick your ISO and shutter speeds from the table above.

Since the eyepiece is about 1/4" (6mm) deeper than the standard eyepiece, I find that it give me a better view of the screen, blocking out more ambient light than the standard Nikon eyepiece! ...

The excess glass does not "Reduce" the quality of a photo. As of matter of fact they help by blocking out some of the UV rays that could alter an image.

Some photographers like to use a circular or other type of Polarizer Filter which works by blocking out the light's rays which are coming in at an angle in and around the images.

Graduated neutral density filters are a slight variation of this - they are dark on top and clear on the bottom, creating a 'gradual transition' from the dark to clear area. These filters are good for blocking out bright parts of a scene ...

If you were trying to capture more detail, this would probably have to be closer to 1/100 or slower (making it more difficult to get a crisp image with a handheld) but since blocking out detail is exactly what you're going for, ...

Say, within an arm's length of the nearest point. This technique helps you to spotlight a distant subject and produce a nice three-dimensional-like effect, while also blocking out background bystanders.

It's that “being far away' that makes the scene look compressed, not the tele-photo lens. The lens only lets you capture the “right' crop of the entire scene, blocking out the foreground and concentrating on the faraway objects.
