Techniques Glossary Boom arm
A metal pole that attaches to a lighting stand and holds a flash head at the end. A counterbalance weight is also usually used. This is used to get the flash closer to the subject as well as over or under it.

I lit the image with a main Photogenic strobe (in a pan light mounted on a boom) and a large Broncolor softbox on a boom as a hair light. An assistant moved a silvered reflector in and out as I shot my motorized 35mm camera.
