Byte

Photography Butterfly lightingC format

The standard measurement of a digital file size. One byte is eight binary digits (bits), allowing 255 possible combinations of 1s and Os. A kilobyte (KB - not to be confused with kb [kilobit]) is 1024 bytes.

Byte - A component in the machine data hierarchy usually larger than a bit and smaller than a word; now most often eight bits and the smallest addressable unit of storage. A Byte typically holds one character.

Byte
Binary data packet made up of 8 bits. A byte can represent values between 0 and 255. It can depict 256 symbols, numbers or colours.

Byte
Abbreviation for binary term, which is a unit of storage capable of holding a single character. On almost all modern computers, a byte is equal to 8 bits.

Brown dwarf objects are a possible source of baryonic dark matter. Brown dwarfs are possible dark matter halo objects. Byte A group of eight bits (in the telecommunication field also octet).

It follows that 8 bits or a 'byte' can represent 2^8th power = 256. We can now see that 8 bit pixels have 256 steps from "color not used" to "all of the color used" for each color channel.

The Commodore Amiga computers used an 880 kB format (eleven 512-byte sectors per track) on a 3½-inch floppy. Because the entire track was written at once, inter-sector gaps could be eliminated, saving space.

The quality of image, I believe, depends upon the bit depth of the image that comes from a camera in-put that supports more than 8 bits (1 byte) in single channel and more than 24 bits (3 bytes) in three channels of RGB.

Computer savvy readers will note that each color in this scheme can be represented by an 8-bit number (byte), so the color of each pixel is defined by three color bytes.

Depending on context, either the least significant byte (of more than one juxtaposed bytes) or the least significant bit (of the bits in a byte or word of data). Contrast with MSB.

Most digital cameras will come with one 16MB or 32MB (MB = Mega Byte) memory card. The more MBs the more pictures you can hold on the memory card.

The smallest unit of memory; a contraction from 'binary' and 'digit'. Binary digits are 0 and 1, also known as ONs and OFFs. (Also see Byte, Kilobyte, Megabyte).

Eight bits equals one byte. Digital images are often described by the number of bits used to represent each pixel. i.e. a 1-bit image is monochrome; an 8-bit image supports 256 colors or grayscales; while 24 or 32-bit supports true color.

An image where brightness appears consistent and uninterrupted. Each pixel in a continuous tone image file uses at least one byte each for its red, green, and blue values.

Bit. Stands for 'binary digit' and refers to the smallest part of information that makes up a digital file. It has a value of only 0 or 1. Eight of these bits make up one byte of data.
