A colour cast is an artificial skewing of the colour information of a photo towards a certain colour giving the photo a (usually unwanted) tint. This can be caused by difficult lighting conditions or inaccurate white balance.

Cast
Cast, or color cast typically refers to an overall, subtle color shift in an image. This undesirable tint is caused by an inappropriate amount of cyan, magenta or yellow.
Cast coated papers have a coating that hardens in contact with a polished chrome surface that gives it an exceptionally glossy finish.

Cast:
Abnormal colouring of an image produced by incorrect white balance or colour temperature settings are used. Can also be found on prints due to many different types of ink and paper combinations. See colour profiling for more information.
Any cast shadow has a partial area called a penumbra and completely dark area called an umbra. The penumbra has some illumination and some shade, the umbra is complete full shading of an object from a source of illumination.

The red cast you mention isn't a problem because we get rid of it in Lightroom or the RAW converter by desaturating the image. To minimize this at the time of capture, set a custom white balance using a grassy area as the basis.
